Lucy Gaynor along with some other Master swimmers is attempting to do a relay channel swim in July. They are hoping to raise €20,000 for the National Rehab Hospital. The Swim Ireland web site also has a link to the information and sponsorship.

Ian Daly Swim A Mile With A Smile
When Ian Daly was 9 years old he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He underwent extensive surgery and months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. One year later he and his family came up with the idea of a sponsored swim to raise funds for Child Cancer Care. They decided that all monies raised should be divided equally between Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin and Barretstown. Sadly, Ian never got to do the swim himself as he died in the Summer of 2003 when he was just 11 years old. Since then, his parents Laura and Brian have fund raised tirelessly for these two charities and have raised in excess of €350.000.
We decided that it would be appropriate for the Dolphin Squad to do the ‘Swim A Mile’ as it would be a challenge for them whilst at the same time supporting two very worthwhile charities. The swimmers could also relate very much to the story of Ian as they are all of a similar age. In April this year the Dolphins completed their mile swim and raised €1665 for Child Cancer Care.
Well done to them all and many thanks to all who supported them and gave donations to the charities.
